Once again, meticulous hand-drawn and stop-frame projects compete alongside a variety of high-end computer-generated offerings. Even so, box office has been down in the sector. Since Disney declined to submit its blockbuster “The Lion King” remake, only one contender, “Toy Story 4,” has surpassed $200 million domestically — although it could face competition from quality auteur works made at a fraction of the budget.
